EUROPEAN METROPOLIS OF LILLE - A WINNING LAND

The European Metropolis of Lille takes pride in the Decathlon Arena - Stade Pierre-Mauroy, an exceptional, world-class venue designed to host the biggest competitions and the most spectacular events.

Following the prestigious Davis Cup, Stade Pierre-Mauroy hosted EuroBasket 2015 in September. Ten months later, football took center stage with the UEFA European Championship. With a 27,000-spectator capacity in Arena configuration, the stadium also impressed the International Handball Federation, securing its place as a host for the 2017 Men's World Championship. On the entertainment side, world-class concerts (Rihanna, Johnny Hallyday, Orchestre National de Lille…) and thrilling shows like Supercross have electrified audiences in this arena of endless possibilities. Nowhere else can you see a grass field lifted to reveal a tennis court, a basketball court, or a grand stage for live performances!

The stadium was built as part of a public-private partnership with ELISA. In 2043, at the end of this partnership, the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL) will become the official owner of the facility.

MEL owns four major sports facilities: the Decathlon Arena - Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve d'Ascq, the Stadium Lille Métropole in Villeneuve d'Ascq, the Weppes swimming pool in Herlies, and the Serge Charles ice rink in Wasquehal. MEL also contributes to the renovation of sports facilities, including swimming pools, and supports the development of new infrastructure, such as Stab, the indoor velodrome in Roubaix.

Serving 85 municipalities, the European Metropolis of Lille works daily for 1.1 million residents in key areas such as the economy, public spaces and roads, urban planning, water management, waste collection, and accessibility for people with disabilities.
